The Hastor Foundation provides funding for more scholars

Sarajevo,  15/12/08
Fifty three students from Bosnia and Herzegovina signed a funding agreement with the Hastor Foundation last weekend, which now brings the number of scholars supported by the Foundation for the 2008/2009 academic year to 811.

As a non-profit organisation registered in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Hastor Foundation has recognised the significance of creating education opportunities for youth in the country. Following its strategy of education as the key to success, the Hastor Foundation hosts projects that help young people living in a state of social and economic need. The Foundation plans to sponsor a total of 970 young people from Bosnia and Herzegovina by the end of the 2008/2009 academic year.

One of the main objectives of the Foundation is striving to engage young people to use hard work and drive, as well as their own resources, to come to grips and overcome the challenges of modern society. The Foundation also includes its scholars in volunteering activities within the Foundation’s projects, where they can work towards developing their local community, learn to be tolerant, contribute to the fight against prejudice and stereotypes that affect them and others, and thus benefit Bosnian society as a whole.

According to data provided by Save the Children UK in 2007, 145,000 children in Bosnia and Herzegovina live in extreme poverty, while a total of 245,000 children live just above the extreme poverty threshold. Every letter, drawing and photograph that we receive at the Foundations only serves to give us more motivation and strength to continue working towards our mission and persevere in our efforts to build a path to a safer and brighter future for our youth.
